Honduras coffee from the Marcala region

The first written information about coffee from Honduras was written even before independence in 1821. A 1804 memo from Governor Don Ramon de Anguiano even expresses his admiration for Honduran coffee, stating " Honduran coffee has the quality of that from Moka and Java!". The places of origin of coffee mentioned, were considered the absolute best in the world, at least in 1800. The first coffee arrived in Honduras from Cuba, as recorded in the Guatemalan Gazette on September 12, 1799. The first place coffee was planted in Honduras was Manto in Olancho.

Honduras Marcala coffee, comes from the department of La Paz, located on a plateau surrounded by mountains. The coffee of the Marcala region was registered in 2005 as a "legally protected geographical indication for a food article", this means that only coffee grown in this department can bear the name Marcala. This is the same protection mechanism as for Jamaica Blue Mountain or Hawaii Kona coffee.

It is worth mentioning that Honduras, despite being a relatively small country, is the third largest coffee producer in Latin America, after Brazil and Colombia, and the sixth largest exporter in the world

The coffee we offer you comes from the COMSA cooperative. The cooperative is an association of about 1,200 small farms that supports its members in the continuous improvement of coffee cultivation quality and enables a better organization of crop sales.

Honduras Marcala SHG Organic is a specialty coffee; complex; soft bright and lively acidity, soft caramel body - exquisite citrus; oranges and peaches. The coffee leaves a lingering aftertaste of floral and sweet notes.
