Nicaragua Coffee - Talia Extra, Finca Las Segovias SHG EP
Nicaragua is about the energy of volcanoes, the richness of colonial architecture, and the scent of jasmine from coffee blossoms wafting everywhere. Costa Rica is the largest country in Central America.
Coffee found its way to Nicaragua in 1790, brought by Catholic missionaries, and due to its excellent climatic conditions, it quickly became one of Nicaragua's most important exports.
Nicaragua Talia Extra SHG EP coffee comes from the Finca Las Segovias plantation near Mozonte, in the Nueva Segovia region. The region lies on the border with Honduras. The processing station, called Beneficio de Cafe Las Segovias sometimes referred to as a mill, is where the top of the skin is removed from the harvested coffee berry bushes, revealing the green coffee beans. Finca Las Segovias is located in Ocotal and is owned by manager Luis Balladeras Moncada. Luis is not only the owner of the processing station but also owns several plantations in the region - hence he is particularly attentive to the interests of local growers - he knows their work from the ground up. As an expression of his care, he donated the entire prize money to the local community when his coffee won the Nicaraguan Cup of Excellence competition. Luisa Balladeras Moncada is now a second generation coffee farmer. Finca Las Segovias is located in an extremely picturesque location surrounded by mountain ranges. What sets Finca Las Segovias apart is their focus on detail, carefully cataloguing each harvest. With meticulous attention to detail at every stage of the coffee processing, Luiz, succeeds in the tough competition of specialty coffee. The plantation from which the coffee comes is located at an altitude of 1,550-1,800 meters above sea level. The coffee is Arabica Catuai, and is washed and dried for 14 days on special outdoor terraces. The coffee was harvested between December and March 2018/2019.
