Rwanda Coffee - Karisimbi AB Arabica.
Rwanda has ideal conditions for coffee cultivation provided by its close proximity to the equator; high mountains, abundant and regular rainfall, volcanic soils full of minerals. The vast majority of coffee comes from small plots of individual farmers, usually about a hectare in size. Coffee in Rwanda is grown practically all over the country, but the largest concentrations of plantations are found around Lake Kivu and in the southern provinces. Small farmers organize themselves into cooperatives that invest in the infrastructure necessary to grow and process coffee. One part of the coffee chain, is the coffee processing station - Karisimbi.
Coffee, from the store Sochaccy.Co comes from an unusual area, from the northern province, located on the border with Congo, from the region of Gicumbi. Coffee in this region is grown high in the mountains, even by Rwandan standards. Plantations are located at altitudes between 2,000 and 2,200 meters above sea level. The coffee grew on the slopes of the Karisimbi volcano. The high location of the plantations is an advantage for them because the lower temperatures allow for more even drying. The Karisimbi processing station, established in 2005 and part of the Abokamu family cooperative, brings together nearly 300 independent farmers. The plantations are sown with the Red Bourbon arabica coffee variety. Red Bourbon is an arabica coffee variety native to Ethiopia. After harvesting by hand, the top part of the coffee cherry is removed using the fully washed method.
