Robusta coffee is one of the two main coffee species, along with Arabica coffee. The species is native to Central and West Africa and accounts for about 40% of the world's coffee production. Robusta coffee is much less valued than Arabica coffee due to its sharper taste and higher caffeine content. Robusta coffee is characterized by a strong and bitter flavor and intense aroma. It is also less delicate and subtle than Arabica coffee. Industrial methods are often used in the production of Robusta coffee. Nevertheless, Robusta coffee is still popular in many countries, especially in Eastern Europe, where it is often added to espresso coffees because its higher caffeine content and the presence of oils contribute to a creamier and more intense crema.
