Coffee from Uganda - Bugisu AA.

What kind of coffee in Uganda?

Uganda is known in the coffee world for its very good quality robusta. However, arabica has also been grown and processed there for decades. Uganda is the seventh largest coffee producer in the world. In households, coffee is grown mainly by women and very often it is the only source of income for the whole family. Coffee accounts for more than 60% of Uganda's foreign exchange value and more than 30% of Uganda's population is involved in coffee cultivation in some way. The coffee industry in Uganda is privately owned and usually these are very small, ½ hectare plots. The only exception is coffee export, which is subject to quality control by the Uganda Coffee Development Authority (UCDA). The authority is responsible for quality control and grading of exported coffee, assessing its quality.
