At what temperature are coffee beans roasted?

The temperature at which coffee beans are roasted is a key part of the process and can significantly affect the taste and aroma of the final product.

Generally, coffee beans are roasted at temperatures ranging from about 180°C to 240°C.

During roasting, the beans go through several stages, each with a characteristic temperature

.

For example, the "first crack," the point at which the beans begin to crack under heat, usually occurs at about 200°C.

"Second crack," which marks the transition to a darker roasting stage, usually occurs at around 225°C.

It is important to remember that the optimal roasting temperature can vary depending on the type of beans, their moisture content, origin and preferred roasting stage. Therefore, coffee roasting is often considered an art that requires experience and precise temperature control.
