    Honduras Marcala Coffee Freshly Roasted Arabica Artisan Coffee Grains

    The first written information about coffee from Honduras was written even before independence in 1821. A note from Governor Don Ramon de Anguiano in 1804 is even an expression of admiration for Honduran coffee he states " Honduran coffee has the quality of that of Moka and Java!". The listed places of origin of coffee, were considered the absolute best in the world, at least in 1800. The first coffee arrived in Honduras from Cuba, as noted in the Guatemalan Gazette on September 12, 1799. The first coffee planting site in Honduras was Manto in Olancho.

    Honduras Marcala coffee, came to our Sochaccy Artisan Coffee Roasters from the department of La Paz, located on a plateau surrounded by mountains. The coffee of the Marcala region was registered in 2005 as a "legally protected geographical indication for a food article," meaning that only coffee grown in the department can bear the Marcala name. This is an analogous protective mechanism to Jamaica Blue Mountain or Hawaii Kona coffee.

    It is also worth mentioning that Honduras, despite being a relatively small country, is the third largest coffee producer in Latin America after Brazil and Colombia, and the 6th largest exporter in the world.

    The coffee we offer you in the coffee shop comes from the COMSA cooperative. The cooperative is an association of about 1,200 small farms, which supports its members in the continuous improvement of the quality of coffee cultivation, as well as allows better organization of the sale of the crop.

    Honduras Marcala SHG Organic is a specialty coffee; complex; delicate bright and lively acidity, soft caramel body - exquisite citrus; oranges and peaches. The coffee leaves a lingering aftertaste of floral and sweet notes.
