Uganda Bugisu AA is an exceptional coffee offered in our Sochaccy coffee shop. It comes from plantations located on the slopes of the extinct Mount Elgon volcano, right on the border with Kenya. Mount Elgon is located in the eastern part of Uganda and is part of a mountain range called the Mountains of the Moon. Coffee plantations on the slopes of Elgon extend from the base of the mountain to the cliff edges, taking advantage of the natural gullies through which huge amounts of water flow down from the summit.
Coffee cultivation in Uganda is primarily in private hands, usually small, half-hectare plots. More than 30% of Uganda's population is in some way linked to coffee cultivation, making coffee more than 60% of the country's foreign exchange value. The altitude at which Uganda's Bugisu AA coffee plantations are located ranges from 1,600 to 1,900 meters above sea level, making cultivation in difficult high mountain terrain and harvesting coffee by hand.
