Coffee from Burma - Ywangan, Shan State.

Speciality coffee from Burma is new to the world and for us at Sochaccy Artisan Coffee Roasters it's a complete novelty. We have been observing coffee from Burma for 2 years now and have never before been able to acquire Burmese specialty coffee.

Arabica coffee came to Burma via Catholic missionaries in 1930. The largest cultivation areas are concentrated in the states of Shan and Pyin Oo Lwin

Myanmar (Burma) Ywangan coffee is from small farms planted with the Catuai arabica coffee variety. The coffee comes from individual farmers, with fields smaller than 3 hectares. In Ywangan the coffee is grown between avocado bushes, jengkol, papaya and shade trees of macadamia. On the one hand, this gives farmers more security in case coffee prices collapse; on the other, it gives the coffee incredible bouquets of flavor notes. Combining plantations is a practice that came to Burma from India. The plantations are located between 1,300 and 1,600 meters above sea level. The coffee harvested by the farmers undergoes a selection process that singles out the best lots, the ripest coffee berries for export. Then the coffee goes to Pyin Oo Lwin, where it undergoes processing - the removal of the top part of the berry, the skin. The coffee is wet processed using the Washed method. The coffee is processed within 24 hours of picking from the bushes and then dried in the sun for 7 to 12 days, depending on the weather.

Myanmar (Burma) Ywangan coffee greets us with an intense sweet aroma, fragrance, fruit. Myanmar Ywangan coffee is complex in its flavor, the main flavor notes are sweetness, green apple, black tea, all surrounded by an intense aftertaste of flowers.
