Coffee Indonesia Reserved
Indonesia Reserved is a unique coffee from North Sumatra, grown in the picturesque Dairi region of Sumatera Utara province. The beans are sourced from small farms, usually less than 1 hectare, located at altitudes between 1,000 and 1,500 meters above sea level. Thanks to favorable climatic conditions and fertile volcanic soils, this coffee has a unique flavor, which is the essence of the region.
The uniqueness of Arabica Indonesia Reserved is also due to the traditional Giling Basah processing method, which is specific to Indonesia. This process gives the beans their original flavor and unique blue-green color. After fermentation and initial drying, the beans are shelled and then re-dried to an ideal moisture content of 12%. This gives the coffee a full body and a creamy texture that will satisfy the most demanding connoisseurs.
Taste profile and sensory evaluation of Indonesia Reserved coffee
Indonesia Reserved is distinguished by a richness of flavors and aromas that perfectly capture the character of Sumatra. The aroma features notes of tobacco, adding a subtle smoky touch. The taste is dominated by distinct notes of cocoa powder, which combine with a creamy texture to create a harmonious, velvety whole. In addition, the coffee surprises with delicate accents of orange peel, giving it freshness and lightness.
The pronounced but subtle citrus acidity adds elegance to the coffee, while the full, creamy body provides a rich texture. This makes the coffee ideal for both pressurized methods and alternative brewing methods such as chemex and drip. A high sensory score of 84.75 confirms its place in the specialty coffee category.
Heritage and tradition of coffee from Indonesia
The history of coffee in Indonesia dates back to the 17th century, when the Dutch introduced the first coffee plants to the island of Java. In the 19th century, coffee cultivation spread to Sumatra, where the volcanic soils and tropical climate gave coffee a unique flavor profile. The region around Lake Toba, the largest crater lake in the world, is where coffee has been grown for generations by local communities who take care of every detail of production.
The distinctive Giling Basah method gives Sumatra coffee the depth of flavor, full body and unique creaminess that set it apart from other coffees in the world.
