                  Guatemala Coffee

The Republic  with its long history of coffee production, is an important point on the map for lovers of this aromatic beverage. The country not only supplies a significant amount of coffee, being the tenth-largest coffee producer in 2015, but has also gained recognition for the exceptional quality of its beans, meeting even the rigorous standards of specialty coffee.

The origins of coffee in The Republic date back to the mid-18th century, when Jesuit missionaries brought coffee trees to the country, treating them as ornamental plants. It wasn't until the mid-19th century, however, after the collapse of the local dye industries, that The Republic began growing coffee on a commercial scale. By 1880, coffee accounted for 90 percent of Guatemala's exports.

The quality of Guatemala's coffee is known around the world. Despite its place in the second ten of world coffee production, the country often ranks second (just behind Colombia) in quality coffee production. The Asociación Nacional Del Café (ANACAFE) organization ensures that high standards are maintained for exported coffee. The coffee grading system includes an evaluation of the altitude at which the beans were grown, as well as the compatibility of the coffee's flavor profile with the distinctive profile of the region from which it comes.

Traditional coffee varieties such as Bourbon and Typica are widespread in The Republic, and the Gesha variety, originally from Ethiopia, is also gaining popularity. The complexity of Guatemalan coffee flavor is partly due to the variety of varieties that are grown here.

The Republic boasts eight unique coffee-growing regions. Each is characterized by different microclimates, altitude conditions and unique coffee flavor characteristics. These regions are: Antigua, Atitlan, Fraijanes, Huehuetenango, Nuevo Oriente, Coban, San Marcos. These differences contribute to the richness of the taste experience offered by coffee from Guatemala.

                  Future of coffee

The future of The Republic coffee looks very positive, thanks to a well-developed coffee industry infrastructure and global marketing. The Republic has successfully avoided many of the challenges faced by other coffee-producing countries.

For coffee lovers, The Republic is where tradition meets modernity in coffee production. We invite you to explore the variety of flavors and aromas this Central American coffee country has to offer.
